Blog one in a series
Government agencies face significant challenges in modernizing their networks and infrastructure, particularly due to limited resources, budget constraints, and government mandates. Amid these pressures, there is a growing opportunity to fundamentally rethink how the federal government approaches modernization, with a focus on resilience, efficiency, and adaptability.
By eliminating key technological debt (tech-debt), agencies can discover game-changing automation and cross-architecture orchestration capabilities that optimize performance and agility, enable future-proofed digital transformation, and help ensure mission-critical resiliency.
This discussion builds on two of my earlier blogs that provide a foundation for this conversation: 1) Rethinking Federal Resiliency; and 2) Transforming IT Modernization.
Importance of Modernization
Modernizing essential networks, infrastructures, applications, and security is now vital to ensuring enterprise mission resiliency by enhancing efficiency, significantly reducing downtime and strengthening Zero Trust security. Siloed modernization must become a thing of the past. Cross-architecture visibility and telemetry at scale are key to understanding enterprise interdependencies that drive mission resiliency.
Tech-Debt Elimination
Modernized infrastructures provide the most granular visibility and analytics that enable advanced enterprise automation and orchestration across both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) assets. Data and telemetry delivered from modern infrastructure assets can see and understand every communication packet and is foundational to dynamic asset visibility and real-time, automated and continuous monitoring. In addition, the ability to detect anomalous activity in real time provides the means to deliver dynamic enterprise infrastructure optimization and protect against and minimize adverse security impacts. Modernized infrastructure also enables integrated threat intelligence across both IT and OT environments.
AI-Powered Capabilities are Key to Resilience
One of the most important features of modernized networks and infrastructures are advanced AI/ML algorithms and controllers and their ability to deliver enterprise automation and orchestration across critical networks and infrastructures. It is not uncommon in today’s legacy networks for over 95% of network changes to be performed manually. Therefore, the ability to provide enterprise-wide automation and orchestration creates enormous network and infrastructure operations “run” cost savings as well as greatly reduces the #1 enemy of mission resilience – human error.
