At NWN, our culture isn’t defined by statements on a wall, it’s defined by the people who show up every day, support one another, and work intentionally to create a workplace where everyone can thrive. As a woman leader at NWN, and as a co‑founder of our Stronger TogetHER women’s community, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply our organization is committed to empowering women at every stage of their careers.
Building a Culture Where Women Can Grow
NWN’s commitment to women is reflected not just in words, but in action. Women make up a meaningful portion of our workforce, and our organization continues to prioritize equitable hiring, development, and advancement opportunities. Internal updates shared through our Stronger TogetHER forums highlight that women represent approximately 30% of our employee base, with recent years showing strong momentum in both hiring and promotions for women across the company.
This focus on inclusion is intentional. NWN understands that diverse perspectives drive better outcomes—for our people, our customers, and our communities. Creating space for women to lead, innovate, and influence is not a side initiative; it’s core to how we operate.
Stronger TogetHER: A Community Built by and for Women
One of the initiatives I’m most proud of at NWN is Stronger TogetHER, our internal women’s community. As a co‑founder, I helped launch Stronger TogetHER with a simple but powerful mission: to empower the women of NWN by creating value‑based connections, providing enriching professional development opportunities, and elevating the voices and presence of women across the organization.
Stronger TogetHER is intentionally inclusive and an opt‑in community, allowing women across NWN to engage in ways that are meaningful to them. Through programming that includes personal branding, meaningful community impact—such as our significant participation and contribution in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer programming across the country—and our marquee MentHership program, the community supports both professional growth and authentic personal connection.
The response has been inspiring. A significant percentage of women at NWN have chosen to opt into the Stronger TogetHER community, demonstrating both the demand for and the impact of spaces where women feel supported and heard.
More Than Programs—A Sense of Belonging
What makes NWN special isn’t just that programs like Stronger TogetHER exist—it’s the way leaders and colleagues actively support them. From celebrating women’s achievements to encouraging participation in industry‑wide initiatives like International Women’s Day and Women of the Channel events, NWN consistently supports its people.
I’ve personally experienced how this culture translates into real belonging. Whether it’s collaborating with peers who are equally invested in lifting one another up or receiving encouragement from leadership to continue building communities that matter, NWN creates an environment where employees are empowered.
Why This Matters—Now and for the Future
Being recognized as a great place to work for women means a lot, and it reflects the culture we’ve built together over time. At NWN, when people feel supported and encouraged to do their best work, everything else—collaboration, creativity, and growth—tends to fall into place.
This commitment to creating an inclusive, empowering environment has also been validated externally. NWN was named a Best Company for Women by Comparably, an award based entirely on employee feedback and a testament to the strength of our culture and the impact of our efforts to uplift women across the organization. As a marketing leader and co‑founder of Stronger TogetHER, I’m proud of what our teams have built together and energized by what’s ahead. When people feel connected, supported, and engaged, the entire organization benefits—and that mindset is embedded in how NWN operates every day.
