Andrea’s career path to Chief People Officer has been shaped by deeply held values, transformative experiences, and the unwavering support of her family. Growing up, her parents were her first mentors, instilling in her the belief that perseverance, hard work, and resilience weren’t just admirable traits; they were essential. Their encouragement taught her that “no” was never the end of the story, especially when the goal truly mattered.

This mindset became her anchor during one of her earliest challenges: not gaining entry to West Point on her first attempt. Rather than letting that moment define her limits, Andrea chose to enlist, determined to prove her commitment. The road was far from easy, but attending USMA Prep School and ultimately graduating from West Point in 1999 became a testament to the power of persistence. 

When Andrea transitioned into the corporate world, she began in supply chain management. Yet, her passion for leadership kept calling her toward Human Resources, a move many mentors advised against because of her engineering degree and business acumen. Their skepticism only fueled her resolve. Pursuing an MBA with a focus in HR was Andrea’s way of forging a new path, one that aligned with her values and aspirations. 

Today, Andrea leads a world-class HR team at a company she is proud to call home, working alongside an executive leadership team that truly prioritizes employees. Every step of her journey has reinforced her belief in resilience, purpose, and the courage to say “yes” when others say “no.” 

Influences That Shaped Her 

Andrea credits two exceptional mentors for shaping her leadership approach: her sister, Navy CPT (retired) Dr. Tracy Thompson, and Kelly Horan, President of IAE Engines at Pratt & Whitney. Her sister exemplified work ethic, honor, and perseverance, inspiring Andrea to serve with integrity. Kelly Horan, Andrea’s first manager, demonstrated exemplary corporate leadership and continues to influence how Andrea approaches challenges and leads teams. 

Her Leadership Philosophy 

Andrea believes in “CARE 365/24/7” a continuous commitment to supporting team members both professionally and personally. She strives to be present beyond traditional work hours, offering support during life’s pivotal moments. Constructive feedback and accountability are also central to her approach. By setting clear expectations and holding herself and others to high standards, Andrea fosters trust and excellence within her team. 

Advice for Aspiring Women Leaders 

Andrea encourages young women to never accept “no” as a limitation. She emphasizes maintaining a strong work ethic, setting high standards, and holding oneself and others accountable, earning respect and driving results. Her advice: always show up for your team and treat colleagues as teammates rather than just employees. When leaders invest in their teams, that investment is reciprocated with dedication and commitment.

Andrea stays engaged by maintaining strong connections with mentors and colleagues throughout her professional network. Sharing in others’ challenges and successes provides perspective and motivation. These interactions remind her that, regardless of circumstances, resilience and capability are universal.

A Few Fun Facts 

People are often surprised to learn that Andrea is an avid quilter, a tradition shared with her mother, sister, and even her sons. Her sister is a renowned quilter and shop owner, and quilting has become a meaningful family activity. Another random skill Andrea has mastered? Selecting rescue dogs that perfectly fit her family—often based solely on online photos. Over the years, she has welcomed four wonderful rescue dogs, and visitors frequently comment on how well they suit her family.
